The Independence Boys Basketball team defeated Cookeville 53-44 to win the school's first State Basketball Championship.  The win is the second in basketball for a WCS school and the first since Franklin High School's Boys Basketball Championship in 1989 (a 43-42 win over Whites Creek).  This marks only the 4th time a WCS team has advanced to the State Championship in Basketball, with last year's Independence team and Brentwood's 2015 team finishing as State Runner-up.
