Week 5

The Battle of the Woods

Ravenwood (4-0, 2-0) vs Brentwood (3-1, 2-0)

The biggest and most notable Rivalry game for the WCS Sports Conference is on deck for Week 5.  First place in Region 6-6A is only one of the multiple things at stake in this clash.  This game has everything to offer that a fan wants to see.  Great skill players, electrifying play-makers, and hard-hitting defenses.  It also has two of the largest student sections and WCS Game Day is set to invade the Ravenwood campus at 6:00 pm.  This game has only been close one time in the last 5 years.  In 2017 the Raptors won 31-23.  Outside of that game, this rivalry has been decided by an average of 21 points.  The #4 Ranked Ravenwood leads this series over the last 5 years by winning 3 of the last 4 and leads the overall point total by 110-88.  However, the visiting Bruins are looking like mid-season form coming into Week 5.

The #12 Ranked Bruins won in Week 4 beating Stewart's Creek 45-33. The Bruins currently only have one "bump" on their schedule with a loss to 6th Ranked Cane Ridge by 3.  The Bruins beat Stewart's Creek by scoring 21, 4th quarter points.  The Bruins QB, Cade Granzow (So) went 12/19 for 145 yards and 1 TD.  He spread the receptions out across his loaded wide receiving corp.  Carter McKechnie (Sn) led the way with 6 catches for 62 yards, Avery Williams (Sn) with 4 catches for 47 and Walker Merill (So) had 2 catches and Chayce Bishop (Jr) finished with 3 catches for 7 yards.  The ground game for the Bruins has been solid and consistent through weeks 1-4.  Senior RB, Jordan Nicholas had 17 carries for 95 yards.

Ravenwood comes in with a similar offensive attack as Junior QB, Brian Garcia completed 11/19 for 188 yards, 3 TD's and 2 INT's in their 35-7 win over Page.  The Raptors have a high-flying receiving corp of their own.  Anthony Holmes (Jr) led the way with 4 catches for 92 yards and 1 TD.  Jake Bringinstool (So) had 3 receptions for 53 yards and 1 TD; Shane Craig (Jr) finished with 3 receptions for 35 yards and 1 TD, and Andrew Mason (Jr) finished with 1 catch for 8 yards.  The ground game helped establish the air raid from the Raptors.  Ravenwood gained 260 total yards on 44 attempts with Tony Rice (Jr) leading the way on 19 carries for 85 yards and 1 TD.

RADAR:  Look for this game to be heavily attended (Better get there early!) and exciting.  Both teams will be a little tight in the opening minutes.  Who will make the first mistake that could potentially be the difference?   The Raptors have not faced a quality Secondary like the Bruins will have.  Look for recent Vanderbilt offered Walker Merill to be a factor at the DB/Safety position.  With 2 INT's last week Garcia will have to be careful on every pass because Tank Starr and the Brentwood defense will be lurking to make another defensive TD.  Ravenwood WR, Mason was quiet last week.  Look for him to have a BIG night.  The Pundits have this game as a "Pick Em" game.  The Raptors cannot start late in this one or it could be a lopsided Bruin victory.

Franklin (2-2, 0-2) vs. Independence (1-3, 0-1)

This matchup is HUGE for both programs as a Region 6-6A Playoff berth could be on the line! It has been a long time since Independence has been in "Uncharted Territory" as they are literally playing for their Playoff lives.  Franklin is arguably the best .500 team out there.  Their two losses coming on a combined 7 points to #4 Ravenwood and #12 Brentwood who are currently sitting in the top 2 spots in Region 6-6A.  The Rebels are coming into Week 5 with a 21-7 win over McGavok.  The Rebels led 21-0 at the half and cruised to victory behind Senior, Matt Gaca.  Gaca rushed for 109 yards on 23 carries.  QB, Josh Nichols (Jr) completed 7 passes on 14 attempts with 2 TD's.  Nichols main target was Chancellor Bright (Jr) who made 4 catches for 59 yards and 2 TD's.  LInebacker, DJ Durham (So) led the defense with 9 solo tackles for the Rebels.  Gaca currently has 439  total, all-purpose yards for the Rebels through Week 4.

Independence's bid for a late-game comeback fell short against the visiting Hillsboro Burros.  With their starting Qb, Nathan Cisco out due to injury the Eagles had to turn towards transfer Ethan Cash (Jr).  Cash threw for 159 yards on 9/18 attempts and 1 TD.  TJ Sheffield (Sr) led the way for the Eagles on 5 catches for 112 yards.  Eagles Running Back, Colby Logan (Sr) had 12 carries for 81 yards with 1 TD.

RADAR:  Two teams that could be trending in opposite directions.  Lots of questions to be answered in this one.  Does Cisco return for the Eagles?  Do the Rebels want this win more than Indy? Can the Indy secondary stop Chancellor Bright?  The defense will be the key in this matchup.  The Rebels are coming in only giving up 14.25 ppg., whereas the Eagles are giving up 40 ppg. Look for Gaca's running to soften up the Eagles defense that could potentially open up the new-look air attack of Franklin. The pundits agree with this stat as they have Franklin as a +13 point favorite.

Centennial (1-3, 1-1) vs. Dickson (3-1, 0-1)

This game is perfect timing for the Jekyll and Hyde Cougars.  Dickson is coming in at 3-1 however, they do not have a quality 6A win on their schedule.  The Cougars stunned Independence with a 62 point explosion in Week 3 but gave up 57 points in a loss to Cane Ridge last week.  Centennial has gotten some great work out of Junior QB, Grayson Marcel who threw for 187 yards on 17/29 passing against Cane Ridge in the loss.  Electrifying Running Back, Jariel Wilson (Sr) had a quiet night by his standards rushing for 56 yards on 9 carries and 2 TD's.  Emerging Cougar Reciever, Ahsharii Hayensworth(Sr) had 7 receptions for 113 yards and 1 TD.

Dickson is coming in off a 31-12 win over West Creek (1-3) in Week 4.  The Cougars have not fared well against the WCS Sports Conference this season.  They gave up 56 points to Brentwood in a Week 3 loss 56-7.

RADAR:  Just what the Dr. ordered for the Cougars!  Centennial will be right back in the hunt for the Region 6-6A title with this win.  The Pundits have the Cougars as a heavy favorite at +27 points.  Jariel will get back on track with a huge night! Expect Haynesworth's stock to continue to climb.

Summit (2-2, 1-0) at Columbia (2-2, 0-1)

The Spartans offense will need to show back up after a lackluster offensive performance against Nolensville in Week 4.  The Knights came to Sumit and got their first-ever victory over a WCS Sports Conference team 13-8.  The Spartans opening drive looked vintage Summit as they score on a long, sustained drive with a George Odimegwu 43 yard TD.  The Spartans would not score again.  Every time the Spartans would put a drive together it would be thwarted by some penalty which would kill any momentum they might have had.  Summit's defense played well and kept the Spartans in the game holding Nolensville to only 13 points.  Freshman QB, Destin Wade had some good moments in the loss.  With only 7 pass attempts he rushed for 32 yards.  Odimegwu finished with a quiet 66 yards on 16 rushes.  Christian Jolley (Sr) had 2 rushes for 52 yards.

Columbia is coming in on a 35-0 shutout over Lawrence Co.

RADAR:  The Doctor's prescription tablet is being utilized in the WCS Sports Conference for Summit in Week 5.  This game comes at a perfect time for Ole Sparty.  They will need to have a higher energy game from the offense....and they will.  Look for Odimegwu to get back into triple digits for the night rushing.  Wade and the Spartans will spread out the Lions a little bit to test the waters of a potential new-look offense with some wrinkles.  This could potentially open lanes for the shifty QB to pick up some huge yardage and possibly open up the air attack.  The Wing-T offense proves too much for the Lions as the Pundits have Summit as a +22 point favorite.

Page (3-1, 1-0) vs. Antioch (0-4, 0-2)

The best remedy for a loss is a game against a winless team.  The Patriots will be hosting a winless Antioch in Week 5.  The Patriots took their first loss in Week 4 35-7 to Ravenwood.  The Patriots had 115 passing yards from QB, Cade Walker (Jr).  Page finished with only 57 yards rushing against a stingy Ravenwood defense.

Antioch has given up 100 points to their 39 scored.

RADAR:  .......The sound of the Doctor's prescription pad being ripped off and handed to the PATS.  The Patriots roll as the Pundits have them as a +18 point favorite against the Bears.  Look for the Walker/Burdick connection to be strong in this game.  After this win, the Patriots set the stage for a huge Region 5-5A showdown with Summit.

Nolensville (3-1, 1-0) at Lawrence Co. (0-4, 0-1)

Nolensville will go on the road to Lawrence Co. for this Region 4-4A Showdown.  The Knights QB, Ryder Galardi (So) threw for 218 yards on 17/26 passing.  Wide Receivers, Zach Campbell (Sr) and Tim Satyskal (Sr) lead the way with 8 catches for 95 yards, and 2 catches for 49 yards.  Wesley Jones (Sr) contributed with 5 catches for 48 yards.  Nolensville workhorse running back, Colton Dooley (Sr) rushed for 71 yards on 27 carries.

Lawrence Co. is losing by an average of 47 points per game.  Their offense has only accounted for 26 points for the entire season.

RADAR:  Nolensville is riding on emotions.  The Knights beat Summit for their first-ever win over a WCS Sports Conference team.  Most people would think that this game could be a "trap game" after a big victory.  Do not worry.  This will not be a trap game for the Knights.  This will be a victory and potentially a lopsided one.  The Pundits think that the Knights will roll and have them as the largest favorites of Week 5 by +38 points!  Look for the Knights to cover and remain unbeaten in Region 4-4A play.

Fairview (3-1, 1-0) vs Camden (2-2, 1-0)

The #4 State Ranked, 3A Jackets amassed 356 yards rushing against Waverly in their 49-42 win.  The two-headed attack of Nardozzi (So) and Harris-Lusk (Sr) continues to be the common theme throughout the season.  Nardozzi finished with 194 yards on 19 carries as Harris-Lusk tops the triple digit mark with 101 yards on only 8 carries and scored 4 times.  Harris-Lusk currently leads the state in all classifications on scoring.  The Jackets QB, Brock Harris (Sr) finished with 190 yards and 2 TD's on 13/19 passing.

Camden is coming off a 52-20 loss to Huntingdon.  They have a quality win over Lewis Co. in Week 2, 39-15.  This game has been the benchmark for Region 6-3A for the past several years.  Whoever wins this game will be favored to win the Championship.

RADAR: Nothing changes for the Jackets.  Nardozzi and Harris-Lusk will have a huge night for the Jackets as they establish their order in Region 6-3A play.  The Pundits have the Jackets as a +14 point favorite and look for them to easily cover.  The Jackets are for REAL!
